The Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy is a county-wide organization with a mission to preserve and enhance the water quality, scenic beauty and ecological health of the lakes, streams and watersheds of the Chautauqua region.WIN -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why is CWC needed? The Chautauqua region's natural beauty, wildlife habitat, waterways, shorelands and wetlands are threatened by development and other land uses. Only 11.6% of Chautauqua Lake's shoreline remains in a natural, undeveloped condition. The wetlands and streams that feed our lake and provide important wildlife habitat continue to be constricted by filling and channelization, leading to an increased potential for flooding, and consequently low summer lake levels. By conserving key sites, we can ensure that the scenic beauty, water quality and ecological health of Chatauqua's natural environments will be sustained
